Well, hello! And happy new year! As you may remember, last year I put a list out there, for all to see, of the things I wanted to get done in 2011. Here it is with not as many items crossed off as I expected.
- New rug for under the kitchen table
- Paint the woodwork and doors in the upstairs hall
- Get a plasterer to smooth the ceilings in the dining room and living room
- Spackle and paint the ceiling at the stair landing
- Re-do the guest room
- Replace the light fixture in the office and put that one in the hall
- New mulch for the whole dang yard
- Finish the fireplace mantel
- Get the heat stains off the 2 stricken tables
- Refinish the antique desk
- Fix the gutters
- Touch up the trim up at the eaves of the house
- Replace the mailbox
- Replace the hatchway cover
- Get the area rugs cleaned
- Fix the giant crack in the master bedroom ceiling
- Add landscape lighting to the walkway
- Get new panels for the side exterior lantern
- Remove the space heater from the back hall wall
- Renovate the hall bath, or at the very least get a new blind or curtain in there...
To my credit, #3 nd #16 have been attempted. Really. It's just that the guy never shows up...And #2? It's too fraught with disagreement to actually happen.
And, I'm giving myself half credit on #20 since I made great progress in there. But, it's not done. So, we have some carry over to this year, as well as some new stuff.
- Get a plasterer to smooth the ceilings in the dining room and living room
- Remove the old smoke detector bracket on the stair landing and spackle the holes
- Fix the giant crack in the master bedroom ceiling
- Repaint the ceilings in the LR, DR, stair landing, and kitchen (this is kind of an obvious follow up to the items above)
- Refinish the antique desk
- Fix the gutters (we had them looked at, and they need minimal work, but I'd like to get it done!)
- Repair and touch up the trim up at the eaves of the house (again, we have a quote, just waiting for spring!)
- Replace the mailbox
- Add landscape lighting to the walkway
- Remove the space heater from the back hall wall
- Finish the vanity project in the hall bath
- Sunroom to mudroom conversion
- Re-tile the 2 bathtub surrounds
- Put a new toilet in the hall bath
- Replace the window in the dining room
See? Shorter than last year! Hooray! And I have to say, up front, that I do not expect to get it all done. The tile? Sheesh, that would be a miracle. As we all know, the best laid plans are crap. Stuff comes up. Like the giant plumbing incident we had in this fall, or redoing the kids' room in pink (!), or re-upholstering cat-damaged chairs. All things that take time and cost money.
So, I consider 2011 a success overall. Onward!
We just bought our house, and for the first time, I realized why people used to tell me that the "to-do" list never ends. Nice work for what you did accomplish.
