Really, I have looked and looked, and looked. And I just can't seem to whittle up an opinion. Sure, there is some ugly stuff...but there is also this vast, vast middle. Stuff that is "fine."
It's all kind of brushed nickel and frosted glassy. And, all. the. same. They call it "traditional" if the shades taper toward the base. They call it "transitional" if the shades are cylindrical or it's shiny. And the category they call "contemporary" seems to contain all of "transitional" plus some weird shit. Anyway... I shopped transitional, since I'm really not trying to make a statement here. Just trying to right a wrong and freshen things up a bit. Oh, and also trying to stay in the chrome or polished nickel family since I don't intend to change out the other stuff. And staying in the basic theme of "round" on the other fixtures*, so no square shades and no blocky-block mounting plates.
Without those limitations, I may well have ended up around here:
(From Lamps Plus: Kichler Cylinder)
But, with my narrowed search parameters, I found these options:
(From Lowes: Allen + Roth 4-light Polished Chrome (I liked the apparent warm glow of these). From Lamps Plus: Hinkley Zoe Collection, Forecast Town and Country. From Lighting Direct**: Kichler Berwick Collection, Alico Madison Collection, Alico Oxford Collection)***
Oh, and for a spot of fun. I also will share this:
That's right. I went there.
*Yes, I just called my fixture theme "round." Laugh away. I know it's absurd.
**Lighting Direct has by far the better search mechanism. Hooray digital folks at LD.
***Of the "collection" names I came across, my fave was the "Pour Le Bain" collection. You know, in case you thought about hanging one of these over your dinging room table or something.
This is really is great. I think now is the best time to spice up our bathroom vanities.
